Soffit & Fascia Calculator
Estimate soffit area and purchasing units, fascia linear footage and stock pieces, waste and optional material cost.
Estimate soffit by multiplying the total eave run by the average soffit depth, adding waste and dividing by the selected product’s effective coverage. The optional fascia estimate adds waste to each separately entered fascia run, divides by stock length and rounds up per run without sharing offcuts. Because manufacturers package soffit differently, enter the published effective coverage for the exact panel, carton or package you intend to buy.
Soffit Material
The loaded coverage is an editable example, not a product specification. Replace it with the exact effective coverage for the panel, carton or package you plan to buy. Use a uniform depth or a length-weighted average (total section area divided by total run); a simple average of unequal runs can misstate area. Check panel cut yield separately.
Fascia Material
Optionally estimate whole fascia boards or stock pieces.
Enter every straight fascia run separately, using commas or new lines. Waste is added once per run; stock pieces round up per run without sharing offcuts. Fascia lengths are independent of the soffit run. Confirm joints, laps, fitting losses and reusable cuts with a product-specific layout.
Optional prices use one consistent currency. Blank price categories are omitted; the subtotal is not a complete project quote.

This is a material-planning estimate. Confirm actual product coverage, panel direction, stock lengths, overlaps, corners, openings, trim and ventilation requirements with the manufacturer, supplier and installer. Use the separate Roof Ventilation Calculator when you need intake and exhaust NFVA rather than soffit cladding quantities.
Soffit and Fascia Measurements to Confirm
The loaded coverage and stock lengths are editable examples, not universal product specifications. Confirm whether the manufacturer lists coverage per piece, panel, carton or package, and enter that same purchasing unit consistently with price.
How to Use the Soffit & Fascia Calculator
- 1Choose Imperial or Metric measurements; switching systems loads native planning examples rather than converting an existing project.
- 2Measure and enter the combined length of all eaves that will receive soffit.
- 3Enter uniform horizontal soffit depth, or total section area divided by total run for a length-weighted average.
- 4Replace the planning coverage with the exact effective square coverage per panel, carton or package you will purchase.
- 5Choose a soffit waste allowance and optionally enter the price for that same soffit purchasing unit.
- 6Include fascia when needed and enter each straight fascia length separately, followed by usable stock length, waste and optional price per piece.
- 7Review waste-adjusted area, whole soffit units, fascia linear footage, whole fascia pieces and any entered material costs.
- 8Complete a separate takeoff for trim, channels, corners, openings, fasteners and ventilation requirements before ordering.
Soffit Area and Fascia Piece Formulas
- 1Base soffit area = total soffit run × uniform or length-weighted average depth.
- 2Soffit waste area = base soffit area × soffit waste percentage.
- 3Waste-adjusted soffit area = base soffit area × (1 + soffit waste percentage ÷ 100).
- 4Soffit units to buy = waste-adjusted soffit area ÷ effective coverage per unit, rounded up to a whole unit.
- 5Purchased soffit coverage = whole soffit units × effective coverage per unit.
- 6Waste-adjusted fascia length = fascia run × (1 + fascia waste percentage ÷ 100).
- 7Fascia pieces to buy = sum of each run × (1 + waste percentage ÷ 100) ÷ stock length, rounded up separately per run.
- 8Purchased fascia length = whole fascia pieces × fascia stock length.
- 9Estimated soffit cost = soffit units × entered price per unit; estimated fascia cost = fascia pieces × entered price per piece.
- 10Priced materials subtotal = enabled quantities × their entered unit prices. Blank price categories are omitted; this is not a complete project quote.
Imperial and Metric Soffit and Fascia Examples
Imperial example: 160 ft of eave with a 2 ft soffit depth has 320 sq ft of base soffit area. With 10% waste, plan for 352 sq ft. If the selected package provides 12 sq ft of effective coverage, divide 352 by 12 and round up to 30 packages. For four separate 40 ft fascia runs, 10% waste gives 44 ft per run. At 12 ft per piece, each run needs 4 pieces, or 16 total with no offcut sharing. At hypothetical prices of $18 per soffit package and $24 per fascia piece, the priced subtotal is $924. Metric example: 50 m of eave at 0.6 m deep equals 30 m². Ten percent waste produces 33 m²; at 1.1 m² per unit, that is 30 units. Four separate 12.5 m fascia runs with 10% waste need 4 pieces each at 3.6 m per piece, or 16 total. Product coverage, layout and prices are examples only.
Accuracy & Assumptions
- Total soffit run includes only eaves within the intended project scope and is measured along the installed edge.
- Average soffit depth is length-weighted: sum each section length × depth, then divide by total run. A simple average is only appropriate for equal-length sections.
- Entered effective coverage matches the exact manufacturer, product, installed profile and purchasing unit used for pricing.
- Waste is applied to area before soffit units round up and to linear length before fascia pieces round up.
- Soffit units round up from total area; fascia pieces round up separately for every run without sharing offcuts.
- Fascia lengths are entered independently of soffit; changing the soffit total does not alter fascia lengths.
- Fascia stock length represents usable purchasable length before field cuts, laps, joints or manufacturer-required allowances.
- Optional price uses the same unit basis as coverage or stock length and excludes tax, delivery, labor and accessories.
- Openings, corners, returns and obstructions are represented only by the selected waste allowance, not by a detailed layout.
- Ventilation capacity, substrate condition, fastening, expansion, drainage and structural suitability require separate evaluation.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I calculate how much soffit I need?
Add the lengths of all eaves receiving soffit and multiply by the horizontal soffit depth. Add waste, divide by the product’s effective coverage per purchasing unit and round up.
Is soffit measured in linear feet or square feet?
Soffit area is commonly planned in square feet or square meters, but some products may be sold or described by panel or linear coverage. Use the manufacturer’s effective square coverage for the exact purchasing unit entered here.
How do I measure soffit depth?
Measure horizontally from the wall-side receiving edge to the fascia-side receiving edge. If depth changes around the building, calculate the different sections separately for better accuracy.
What does effective coverage per soffit unit mean?
It is the usable installed square coverage supplied by one panel, carton or package after the product profile and required laps are considered. It may differ from gross material dimensions.
How much waste should I add for soffit?
A simple verified layout may use a modest allowance, while corners, returns, openings and short sections can increase waste. Use a panel layout and supplier guidance whenever possible.
How is fascia calculated?
For each entered fascia run, add waste, divide by usable stock length and round up. Sum the whole-piece counts. Offcuts are not shared; confirm any reusable cuts and fitting losses with a product-specific layout.
Should fascia length always match soffit run?
Not necessarily. It may match on a complete eave replacement, but gables, omitted areas, repairs and different scopes can change the total. Enter every fascia run independently from the soffit measurement.
Does this calculator include J-channel or F-channel?
No. Receiving channels, trim, corners, fasteners, sealants and other accessories depend on the product system and layout and need a separate takeoff.
Does this calculator tell me how much soffit ventilation I need?
No. This page estimates soffit cladding and fascia material. Use the Roof Ventilation Calculator for intake and exhaust NFVA using the exact vent product ratings.
Can I use this calculator for aluminum, vinyl or fiber-cement soffit?
Yes, if you enter the exact effective coverage per purchasing unit and follow that product’s layout, support, fastening, expansion and compatibility instructions.
Can I estimate material cost?
Yes. Enter price per soffit purchasing unit and price per fascia piece. Blank prices are omitted from the subtotal; trim, accessories, labor, delivery, tax, equipment and repairs are excluded.
Can I use Metric measurements?
Yes. Metric mode calculates soffit in m² and fascia in linear m. Enter product coverage in m² per unit and fascia stock length in m.
This calculator provides a preliminary soffit and fascia material estimate only. It does not perform a product-specific cut layout, determine vented-versus-solid soffit placement, calculate NFVA, diagnose moisture, evaluate substrate or framing condition, or select materials, fastening, support, expansion, flashing, drainage or fire-resistance details. Product coverage, stock length, accessory requirements and installation methods vary by manufacturer and system. Older soffit, fascia, coatings and adjacent materials can contain hazardous substances that require testing and regulated handling. Eave and roof-edge work involves serious fall, ladder, electrical, sharp-edge, overhead and weather hazards. Follow applicable code, approved plans and manufacturer instructions, and have the supplier or qualified installer confirm measurements, ventilation, substrate, accessories and final quantities before ordering or starting work.
